After sitting out the 2014 PBA season, Rich Alvarez is hoping for a comeback.
The 2005 Rookie of the Year is hopeful that he will get a chance to compete with the younger studs in time for the 40th season of the PBA.
“It’s fun playing again. I’m getting back in shape, and hopefully, everything works out,” Alvarez said in a short chat during the Team KIA practice facility in Pasig.
The 6-foot-5 former King Eagle last saw action for Talk ‘N Text during the 2013 season and has logged career-lows all over, but what drives the 33-year-old Alvarez to get back on the hardcourt is the rejuvenation of Asi Taulava last season.
“Every one has their own goals set for themselves. Asi just inspired everyone,” Alvarez said.
“Guys who are older are thinking, ‘If he can do it, maybe we can do it too.’ Not to the level of being MVP contender, but just to be able to compete at that level,” he added.
Though Alvarez believes that the competition is tougher now than when he last suited up, he knows that it wouldn’t hurt him if he’ll try.
“I know I can still play. I wanna try and do what I can,” he said. (RL)
