With four rookies acquired in the 2014 Gatorade PBA Draft, GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio expressed his satisfaction over the Batang Pier’s harvest in the annual rookie selection.

“Sakto kasi we got the best available talent which is (Stanley) Pringle, and we got someone for our three-spot, si (Anthony) Semerad,” the amiable coach said in a short chat right after the Draft proceedings.

GlobalPort selected the 6-foot-1 Pringle as its first pick, and surprised many when they made a move to take San Mig Coffee’s seventh pick and nabbed Anthony Semerad.

“Kailangan namin ng agile na shooter na big eh, which is si Semerad yung available kaya pinick namin sya,” Jarencio said.

GlobalPort also added in its lineup the Arellano duo of Prince Caperal and Nard Pinto at the 17th and 19th spots, respectively.

“Yung sa huli na lang, sina Pinto at Caperal, nakita namin sila open kaya kinuha namin,” he said.

For his part, Pringle expressed his gratitude for being the first point guard taken first overall since JVee Casio in the 2011 Draft.

“It’s truly a blessing. I’m truly, honestly grateful that I’m picked number one. It’s a great feeling,” Pringle said. “I’m going to bring a leadership mentality to GlobalPort. I’m gonna go hard each and every day, practice or play, and I’m not gonna quit.” (RL)
