KIA vs Talk N Text (11-06-14)_header

To be consistently competitive is one thing Talk n Text wants to achieve sooner than later.

In an up-and-down ride, the Tropang Texters seek their first successive wins under coach Jong Uichico as they tangle with the Kia Sorento in the PBA Philippine Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum 7 p.m. Friday.

“We want to be consistent offensively and defensively,” said Uichico of something they haven’t done in their first four games.

They were blown out by Barangay Ginebra, 81-101; rebounded with a 103-81 rout of NLEX; suffered a 98-100 heartbreaker to Alaska and again bounced back with a 99-76 win over Rain or Shine.

Talk n Text is fancied to make it two in a row with its formidable lineup ranged against the rookie-laden Kia squad which has dropped its last three games.

But Uichico insists they have to be consistent on what they want to do if they’re to hurdle the Sorento who have shown improvement in their game.

Kia coach Glenn Capacio wants to build on their fighting showing against GlobalPort Tuesday.

“Malaki na ang improvement ng team. Na-cha-challenge na sila. Hindi na sila nagugulat o na-i-starstruck. Nung opening game yung mga players halos mabitawan yung bola sa nerbiyos,” said Capacio.

The Sorento took control most of the way before succumbing at the finish in a 79-84 loss to the Batang Pier.

Capacio was elated the most on their defensive effort, pointing out how they limited Stanley Pringle to 13 points and Terrence Romeo to two.

The Sorento, however, must work extra hard to contain the Talk n Text scorers.

From a blown effort the last time, Talk n Text returned playing heads-up throughout Sunday and dealt Rain or Shine a 23-point beating.

The Texters built a 15-point margin right in the first half, pulled away further in the third period and made sure not to bungle their effort by not letting up until the end.

Ranidel de Ocampo, Jay Washington, Kevin Alas, Matt Rosser and Harvey Carey took turns to give TnT the needed push versus Rain or Shine. (SB)
