Jumbo Plastic leaned on total team effort as it pounced on MP Hotel, 97-54, in the 2015 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the JSCGO Gym in Cubao on Monday.

With their fourth win in five starts, the Giants continued to stick close to the coattails of undefeated leaders Hapee and Cagayan Valley.

Marion Magat led the all-around attack for Jumbo, just missing a double-double with his 18 points and nine rebounds, while Denice Villamor added 13 markers, and Mark Cruz having 11 to his name.

“Nasustain namin yung umpisa, di sila nakareact, kaya tinuloy-tuloy na namin,” said Jumbo Plastic coach Stevenson Tiu, who missed the services of Maclean Sabellina.

The grizzled forward is expected to sit out six weeks due to a broken finger sustained in their last game against CafeFrance.

Jumbo Plastic uncorked a 30-point second quarter and never looked back, taking advantage of the Warriors’ 31 turnovers and netting 37 points from those miscues.

Wowie Escosio paced MP Hotel with 11 points and eight boards.

Bread Story-LPU, for its part, took care of business and beat an undermanned MJM squad, 108-97.

Jackson Corpuz led Bread Story as he scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half, while Jiovanni Jalalon and Ed Daquioag both had 16 markers.

Joseph Gabayni also registered a double-double with his 15 points and 13 boards, with Louie Vigil and Aziz Mbomiko combining for 22 markers.

Bread Story opened the second half on an 8-2 run to take a 54-45 lead and maintain that nine-point distance until the final two minutes.

The M-Builders tried to stage a comeback behind Mac Belo and Glenn Khobuntin, but the trio of Jalalon, Corpuz, and Vigil were all steady in the end game as Bread Story took the victory.

“Na-take advantage naman namin yung kakulangan nila,” said Bread Story-LPU coach Bonnie Tan, as they improved to 2-3. “It’s more on experience talaga ang habol namin, and exposure for the Lyceum players.”

Belo carried the fight for MJM with his 30 points and 10 rebounds. Cody Tesoro added 18 markers.

MJM missed the services of coach Nash Racela, Mike Tolomia, and Roger Pogoy, who are all with FEU in the PCCL game which was being played simultaneously with the M-Builders’ duel with the Smashing Bakers.

Khobuntin and Tristan Perez made it in the third quarter, but their arrival wasn’t enough help for MJM as they slid to 1-4.

In the first game, AMA University clipped Racal Motors, 83-76, to notch its second win in five outings.

Philip Paniamogan waxed hot in the second half, pouring all of his 22 points in the last two quarters to lead the Titans to their second victory. Jay-R Taganas was a monster in the game, recording 21 markers and 20 rebounds for AMA.

Joshua Cubillo had 12, while Joseph Eriobu chimed in a double-double with his 10 markers and 12 boards.

“We did good pressure defense. Nagrelax lang kami kaya nakadikit yung Racal,” said AMA coach Mark Herrera.

The Titans erected a 22-point lead, 57-35, with four minutes left to play in the third, but the Alibaba made an inspired run to cut the deficit to as low as four, 72-76, with 2:12 remaining in the game. AMA, though, would have the last laugh as Paniamogan and Eriobu nailed timely baskets to keep the victory to Racal.

Jamil Ortuoste had 21 points for Racal Motors in the losing effort. (RL)
