DIET SUSPENDED FOR HOLIDAYS – ASI
For the second straight season, Asi Taulava has proven that despite his age, he can still go toe-to-toe against the league’s younger bigs…and excel.
And he did that with discipline, may it be nutrition-wise or his workout plan.
But for the Christmas season, the Fil-Tongan center admitted that he will stop something momentarily.
“The diet is suspended,” Taulava said. “I’m gonna eat whatever I want and do whatever my kids want to do.”
The 2003 Most Valuable Player has been on a strict diet since making his return to the PBA in 2013, eating eight small meals per day while inserting “cheat meals” in between.
But all-in-all, Taulava is just thankful for the year that was for him, where he almost nabbed his second MVP award.
“2014 has been great playing basketball especially at my age, when everybody thinks that I’m the most senior in the PBA so everybody should just push me around, but I’m trying to hold my ground against them,” he said. “I’m just thankful for my good health and blessed knees.”
In the basketball court, the 42-year-old said that he is still focused on his promise of bringing NLEX to the Finals before he calls it quits.
“I want to lead this team to the Finals, help NLEX win a championship before I’m all said and done and I walk away,” Taulava said.
But for now, Asi will just enjoy his off time before he prepares for the Commissioner’s Cup come 2015.
He said, “I’ll just enjoy every moment with my family right now. My wife and my kids, they’ve been a blessing for me. I’m just thankful for them.” (RL)
