Canaleta 2 (02-27-15)

Niño Canaleta saw how hard NLEX import Al Thornton has been pushing himself so much in their past games despite the gimpy right knee.

So when they went up against Meralco, the former UE Red Warrior took it upon himself to step up and help the cause of the Road Warriors.

Thornton and Canaleta starred in NLEX’s 89-76 win over Meralco Friday, as the Road Warriors scored their first back-to-back victories in the PBA.

FEATURED STORIES

Canaleta came away with 16 points on a blazing 4-of-7 shooting from three-point land. Could this be a prelude to what might come in the Three-Point Shootout in Palawan next weekend?

“Nagkataon lang,” Canaleta said. “Dinodouble yung import namin kaya kailangan namin mag-step up kasi pagod na rin sya nung huli eh.”

At 3-4, they are now tied with Kia for eighth place, possibly contesting for the last ticket to the quarterfinals.

Though they are slowly getting better as a squad, Canaleta believes that NLEX still has a long way to go before the team realizes its full potential.

“Marami pa kaming kailangang ayusin. Kulang pa. Though nagiimprove kami, sana mag-tuloy-tuloy,” he said.

And Canaleta doesn’t want to be distracted just yet with the All-Star looming in the background.

“Nagshu-shooting naman ako sa spots para pagdating sa All-Star, di tayo makulelat. Pero focused ako sa laro ngayon.” (RL)
