Starting the conference like a house on fire, the law of averages soon caught up with Barako Bull.

And now, with its latest defeat coming at the hands of Purefoods, the Energy find themselves toting a 4-6 card and just hoping to tab one of the final tickets to the quarterfinals.

Coach Koy Banal explains the slide, saying, “You cannot deny that the composition ng team namin is a lot lower than the other teams. But I’m grateful for that chance na maka-3-0 kami at the start of the conference.”

“I cannot ask for more from the players. They are giving their best day-in and day-out. Yun lang, I can’t do anything about it when it comes to the materials of the team. I have to make do of what I have,” he added.

Banal said that he’s not faulting anybody for their string of losses, saying that his wards never failed to work hard in practice or in the games.

He hopes that this effort will bring them rewards soon.

“That’s what we believe in: What you sow is what you reap. Pag nagtanim ka ng hard work, automatic yun. It might not be now, but it might be tomorrow or anytime. I believe it’s knocking on our doors. We just have to keep on working hard,” he said.

Barako Bull still has a chance to push itself in the discussion for the last few quarterfinal slots if it can snag its fifth win against NLEX on Tuesday. And for Banal, he’s wishing that his team can hit from the outside to improve their chances of advancing to the playoffs.

“Right now, we need to shoot more from the outside and be better with our outside shots. Kung wala kaming outside shooting, the defense will clamp down low on (Solomon) Alabi,” he said. “We can’t afford na less than 30 percent kami from the three-point line, we’ve got to do better on our outside shooting.” (RL)
