For Purefoods coach Tim Cone, he’s ready to take everything come playoff time even if it means being relegated to third.

“It doesn’t really matter for us,” he said.

At 8-3, Purefoods has a chance to snag one of the two coveted twice-to-beat advantage slots in the quarterfinals. However, if Rain or Shine and Talk ‘N Text both win their final assignments, the Hotshots would tumble down to third spot by virtue of the quotient system.

FEATURED STORIES

But that’s beyond Cone’s mind right now.

“We finished the way we wanted to finish. It’s out of our hands,” he said, as Purefoods wrapped up its eliminations schedule against Meralco, 96-85 on Friday. “Like I said last game, we are very happy with a best-of-3. Anything beyond that is a bonus.”

Cone added, “If we end up at third, I’ll be happy with that. We’re gonna be able to make a run from there. Sure, we’d preferably like one or two, but it’s out of our control.”

All the Hotshots can do now is watch from the sidelines. Fimishing their elims sked early means having a week’s break before plunging back into action.

“We’ll wait, that’s the difficult part,” he said. “We’re gonna talk about the weaknesses we have at this point. We just can’t rely on Denzel (Bowles) for us every time. Guys have to step up and we have to rely on their execution. That’s what we’re going to work on our practice.” (RL)
