NOW’S THE TIME TO SHINE
Alex Nuyles sure is making the most of his opportunity with Kia.
Acquired at the end of the second conference for Reil Cervantes, the former Adamson Falcon made his presence felt in his first game in a Carnival uniform.
Nuyles tallied a career-high 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, to go with six rebounds and two steals in Kia’s 83-78 victory over San Miguel Beer.
He capped his career game with a steal off Alex Cabagnot on an all-important possession for San Miguel, and calmly coasted to a fastbreak layup on the other end to secure the win for Kia with 34.9 seconds left to play.
“Natural na lang sa akin yung ganung sitwasyon. Sobrang tagal na namin pinapractice yung defense kaya ready lang kami,” Nuyles said.
Already in his third team in just his second year in the league, the 25-year-old believes this Kia stint is his best bet to finally make a splash in the league.
“Gagawin ko lahat ng makakaya ko. Surely, mas maganda at ok ako dito,” he said. “We’re not thinking about ourselves. Team lang kami. We talk about defense all the time. Walang iisiping iba.”
But above all, the tireless combo-guard said that the big win for the Carnival is all dedicated to their playing coach Manny Pacquiao.
“We owe it to Boss Manny. We have to uplift his spirit. For me, we have to play para sa kanya,” he said.
