ALAS-kia banchero

It was an unusual scene on Friday, Chris Banchero sporting a headband to keep his long curls tidy.

That new accessory could have been the lucky charm as the Aces bludgeoned Kia, 101-63.

So was it Banchero’s headband which brought the good luck? The rookie would like to think so.

“Calvin (Abueva) gave it to me so I think it brought good luck,” Banchero said, also explaining why he decided to don the accessory.
“My hair is all over the place. I needed something to keep it in place.”

Banchero was a big boost in the all-out attack from the Aces, scoring 14 points to go with his four assists and two steals.

But more than anything, the heady guard was just happy that his squad got the W.

“Regardless of who we’re playing, we’re just trying to get as many wins as possible. Our main goal is making it to the top four and getting that twice-to-beat,” he said. “It was a good bounce back because we kind of blew that game against NLEX.”

With Alaska virtually in the quarterfinals at 5-2, Banchero is wishing that the Aces could sustain their effort and possibly snag one of the coveted top four spots.

“A lot of our guys are playing well, especially our import. I think we have a good chance to make it to the top four, if not the top two so hopefully, we keep playing well together,” he said. (RL)
