JUST ENJOYING THE GAME
If there’s one thing that Ronald Tubid relishes, it’s pestering his man and making his life miserable.
Just ask Kelly Williams or Jayson Castro, or anybody who had to deal with Tubid Tuesday night.
To make things worse, or better, if you’re on his side, it was Tubid who nailed the dagger of sorts, swishing a turnaround jumper with 52.7 left to practically seal SMB’s win over Talk n Text, the club’s seventh in a row this conference.
For the tireless combo-guard, it’s just the veteran’s know-how of letting the game get to you.
“Sabi nga namin, pag masyado kang pressured, nawawala yung laro mo. When you enjoy the game, parang wala lang,” Tubid said.
It also helps that Tubid has embraced his role as a hard-nosed defender.
“We just enjoy playing defense. Konti lang nage-enjoy mag-play ng defense di ba, so it should start sa veterans kaya we as veterans enjoy playing defense,” he said. “It starts in practice. Ever since nanalo kami, sa practice, harutan. I see to it na may makuha kami sa isa’t isa at nadadala namin yun sa games.”
And with this seventh straight San Miguel win, Tubid admits that the miscues of the past are already behind them. And they’re not yet done.
“Kinalimutan na namin yung last conference,” Tubid said. “This one is a new conference. Natuto na kami dun. Pero di pa masarap kasi we’re not yet done. We want to be on the top, kaya ang practice namin, we really treat it as a game. Kaya kung umabot sa playoffs, easy na lang sa amin. Mageenjoy na lang kami.” (RL)
