As Blackwater looked for relief with Marcus Douthit currently suiting up for the Gilas cadets squad in the SEA Games, the coaching staff flew in another Marcus to help the Elite right their way in the season-ending Governors’ Cup.

Fielding in Marcus Cousin for its game against Talk ‘N Text, Blackwater expected a grand entrance from its newest reinforcement.

However, things didn’t turn out as they had hoped for.

Cousin did finish with 16 points and nine rebounds in the Elite’s 91-98 defeat to the Tropang Texters, and the 28-year-old import doesn’t want any comparison  to the NBA’s DeMarcus Cousins.

“I don’t care. We have kind of the same name but we don’t have any relationship,” he said.

Cousin, whose surname is pronounced “koo-zan”, was more concerned with the Elite’s late slip off which cost them the game.

“I thought we got to a good start, but in the end, we had some letdowns on defense. We couldn’t pull out one,” he said.

The 6-foot-11 center also admitted that the style of play did bother him a bit, saying, “Whenever I get the ball, they double team me, so I have to adjust to that, be patient, find my teammates who are open,” said Cousin.

The well-traveled center, though, is still hopeful for his remaining games with Blackwater.

He said, “Tonight, I had to adjust to the double teaming. I have to be more patient and hopefully, we can win the next game.” (RL)
