4 IN A ROW FOR ROS
Rain or Shine, players healthy and battle ready, outhustled Star, 103-88, in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Saturday.
It was the fourth win in a row for the Elasto Painters, who now share fifth spot with GlobalPort at 5-4.
Jeff Chan and Wendell McKines combined in a searing third quarter tear as Rain or Shine took full control of the game.
The Hotshots had no ready answer for ROS’s guns with the E-Painters still waxing hot in the fourth canto, stretching the lead to 97-83 with3:37 remaining.
“It’s a big game for us as we’re still looking to get to the top four,” said Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao. “This opens the door for that slot, the last slot probably to make a twice to beat advantage.”
“We’re on a win streak, our chemistry is returning to us. Jeff Chan is a big factor. He’s giving us a lot of good spacing that creates space for our import in the middle.”
McKines finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds while Chan accounted for 14 points for the Elasto Painters.
Star slid to 2-5 to keep idle Barangay Ginebra company at ninth.
The Hotshots were led by Marc Pigris’ 25 markers. Marqus Blakely was held to 13 points and 10 rebounds. (JL)
