BATANG PIER EYE FRANCHISE RECORD
After walloping NLEX by 28 points on Friday, GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio gave credit to the collective effort of the players, coaches and management as the Batang Pier tied their franchise-best number of wins at five.
“It was a total team effort and I’m happy that I finally got five wins in the PBA,” said Jarencio.
On Sunday, GlobalPort (5-4) seeks to beat that record and get to six victories as it faces Kia (4-3) in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup.
But more than anything else, Jarencio’s eyes are set on a quarterfinal berth as another win could push them closer to the top eight, and possibly, a top four finish.
“We have a big chance to make it to the playoffs,” he said.
If the NLEX game was any indication, Jarencio is assured that his wards will be ready to go, as the Batang Pier pounced on the Road Warriors behind imports Jarrid Famous and Omar Krayem, as well as Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle.
However, the Carnival will be ready for that high-octane offensive game of GlobalPort, as they have shown in their grind out victory against Barako Bull.
Clamping down on defense, Kia stifled the Energy’s gunners and limited them to their worst offensive production this conference behind the efforts of Hamady N’Diaye, LA Revilla, and Jet Chang.
