A chance for redemption for Alaska?

That’s the least of coach Alex Compton’s concerns.

“We want to win and nothing else,” he said.

FEATURED STORIES

The American coach believes this rematch of the Philippine Cup finals collission between Alaska and San Miguel will be just as exciting.

“Our lineups are pretty much the same, except they added Gabby (Espinas), Jay-R (Reyes), and Yancy (de Ocampo). They added some size. But the main story is AZ Reid and Romeo Travis,” he said.

Compton gave a short assessment on the brewing matchup between the reinforcements and he sees the two as polar opposites.

“I think AZ is the more prolific scorer and Romeo is our do-it-all kind of guy. I love Romeo’s mindset, his intelligence, and basketball I.Q. but it’s gonna be everybody from Alaska, all of us to bring our best of we want to win a championship against a team like San Miguel,” he said. “It’s not about Romeo and AZ, it’s not about individual matchup for us. It will be our team stopping their team, and we’ll put the emphasis on the stopping part. We’ll do what we do, play as hard as we can, leave it all out there. They’re a great team and hopefully for us, it will be a better result.”

He also knows that the sense of urgency for the Aces will be at an all-time high, as they gun for a different outcome this time out.

“I know that we’re gonna play really hard from jump ball until the end,” he said. “We’re gonna come after them hard. We can’t be passive. We need to be aggressive. They are stacked, loaded, have the most dominant local, and a two-time Best Import. They got tons of locals who are great players. They’re stacked. We can play with them and see who comes out victorious.”

Compton ended, “It’s gonna be two rams at the very top of the mountain, dalawang matigas ang ulo, going right at it, butting heads and see who headbutts harder, for superiority. They’re good and I think we’re good too. We’re coming at them, they’re coming at us. It should be a good Finals.”
