Fajardo still league’s top rebounder

On the way to back-to-back MVP feat, San Miguel Beer main man Junemar Fajardo also topped the PBA rebounding business for two consecutive seasons.

In keeping his dominant presence at the paint, Fajardo remained the league’s barometer in rebounding with a season average of 12.91.

Barangay Ginebra’s Greg Slaughter was the only other player to finish with a double-digit rebounding average with 10.2.

Many-time rebounding champion Asi Taulava came in third with 9.9, followed by Calvin Abueva (8.7), Cliff Hodge (8.07), Japeth Aguilar (7.6), Marc Pingris (7.1) and Arwind Santos (7.0).

Globalport super rookie Stanley Pringle was the best rebounding guard with an average of 5.8 a game. He wound up at ninth overall.

Blackwater’s Bryan Faundo grabbed 5.7 caroms a game to round up the season’s Top 10 rebounders.

Fajardo was No. 1 on the offensive board with 4.9, followed by Taulava (3.5), Slaughter (3.06), Hodge (3.05), Pingris (2.9), Abueva (2.8), Aguilar (2.7), Jake Pascual (2.3), Raymond Almazan (2.2) and Doug Kramer (1.9).

Through three seasons in the league, Fajardo averaged 12.07 boards a game, above the all-time best of 11.7 set by Ramon Fernandez.

Among the league’s rebounding champs in the past were Harvey Carey, Kelly Williams, Dorian Pena, Rico Villanueva, Eric Menk, Rudy Hatfield, Danny Ildefonso, Poch Juinio, Noli Locsin, Bong Hawkins, Jerry Codinera, Benjie Paras, Abet Guidaben, Terry Saldana, Robert Jaworski and Manny Paner. (SB)
