Rain or Shine surprise no. 3 pick Ahanmisi also stunned by selection
As much as Rain or Shine shocked everyone with its selection of Maverick Ahanmisi at three, the Fil-Nigerian guard said that the early pick also surprised him.
“No, I didn’t expect it,” said Ahanmisi said during the 2015 Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft. “I’ve been told I’ll be picked at seven, eight, or nine. It was a shock for me.”
Ahanmisi impressed in the 2015 PBA Draft Combine but had already established a solid reputation after a stint for Cafe France in the PBA D-League.
“I didn’t practice for any team so I’m just surprised,” said Ahanmisi who returned to the country after working out back in Minnesota two days before the Combine.
Ahanmisi is just excited with his new chapter of his career now that he will be running with coach Yeng Guiao and the Elasto Painters.
“I know Rain or Shine is a good team. I watch Paul Lee and I love his style of play. I also like coach Yeng’s style of play,” the 22-year-old said. “I’m glad Rain or Shine picked me.”
