Despite picking up its game in its last two assignments, head coach Tab Baldwin admits Gilas Pilipinas is playing “erratic” basketball.

The American coach is looking for consistency from the Filipinos heading into the second round of the 2015 Fiba Asia Championship, where they will face Japan, India and powerhouse Iran.

“If erratic is the form that we are looking for, then we are pretty well placed right here (after the first round of the preliminaries),” Baldwin said in the post-match press conference following Gilas’ 110-64 beatdown of Kuwait.

But Baldwin is confident that Gilas Pilipinas can get the job done when the going gets tough, especially in the next round when the Filipinos square off with tougher and taller opponents.

“We’ve seen them rise to the occasion when the expectations are high,” Baldwin said. “We have high expectations for the next round and the remainder of the tournament. And we expect to rise to that challenge.”

After Saturday’s break, the Philippines opens the second round against Japan on Sunday, against Iran Monday then against taller Indian on Tuesday.
