Belga on Rain or Shine rookie Ahanmisi: ‘He’s a fighter’

Though many were caught by surprise when Rain or Shine picked Maverick Ahanmisi as the third overall pick in last month’s draft, he is showing in practices that he deserves to be in the position he’s in.
And Elasto Painters veteran Beau Belga is a witness to Ahanmisi’s hard work in training.
“He’s fine. We’re doing well in practice and I see the new guys improving,” the burly big man said.
The 24-year-old Ahanmisi is part of the Painters’ draft haul which includes Adamson’s Don Trollano, National University’s Dennice Villamor and Mapua’s Josan Nimes.
Belga likes what he’s seeing so far from the newcomers.
“Madali sila mag-catchup sa mga beterano,” he said, also adding that intimidation isn’t really an issue with their team. “Madali din naman kami pakisamahan kaya madali na lang din siguro sa kanila yung adjustment.”
Belga also feels the Fil-Nigerian Ahanmisi has a lot of room for improvement.
“Kailangan nya maging creative sa teammates. Nakikita ko sya na excited sya shumoot eh. Ang role ng guard dito is to set up the offense and the team,” said Belga.
“In time, he will know his role sa team na to. I’m really happy kasi matibay sya. Kahit anong gawin mo, lumalaban.”
