Contrary to some expected at the start of 2015 Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup, Barako Bull is running a good campaign so far with a respectable 3-2 card.

Credit that to team effort.

“Anybody can step up. Collectively, it’s a team effort,” said Josh Urbiztondo. “We’re there and we have each others back and we play for each other. That’s important for our team that anybody can step up at any given time.”

FEATURED STORIES

Barako Bull has found a sustainable way to rise through adversities, mainly banking on defense. From JC Intal and Chico Lanete to guys like Urbiztondo and Willy Wilson, the squad has found the right mix to snatch wins against fancied foes.

“We’re just grinding it out,” said Urbiztondo. “Coach keeps on emphasizing to get stops on defense, and we’ll get our rhythm in offense through our defense.”

The Energy posted their first win-streak of the tournament so far after a 93-85 victory over Mahindra.

It also helps that the Energy are composed mainly of grizzled veterans who have a lot to prove.

“We have some fighters. We show character every night. Hopefully, we just go uphill from here, and sana tuloy-tuloy na ang panalo namin,” said Urbiztondo.
