Player of the Week: Pringle earns third citation
Fil-American guard Stanley Pringle’s solid performance on Sunday made him the first player this season to earn three Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week awards.
With his team playing in a win-or-go-home playoff match against the fancied Barangay Ginebra side, Pringle supplied the scoring ammunition and steady ball handling to lift GlobalPort to a pulsating 84-83 overtime win before a pro-Gin Kings crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The victory towed the Batang Pier to their first-ever PBA semifinal appearance in franchise history as they arranged a best-of-seven series in the Final Four against the top seed Alaska Aces.
The bearded GlobalPort guard fired four points in extra session, including a hard drive to the basket with under one minute to play to give his team an 84-80 cushion.
The six-foot guard out of Penn State finished with a game-high 25 points on top of eight rebounds, an assist and a block as he proved to be the thorn on Ginebra’s side in phase two of the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals.
Up next for Pringle and GlobalPort are the Aces, one of the two early birds in the semis following their impressive 9-2 win-loss record in the single-round eliminations.
Their race-to-four-wins semifinal series begins on January 5. (RD)
