The new breed of up-and-coming stars will once again take center stage as the sixth season of the PBA D-League tipped off on Thursday at San Juan Arena.

Nine teams, including five school-based squads, will fight for the right to be named as the 2016 Aspirants’ Cup champions.

“The 6th season of the PBA D-League may just be the most exciting yet,” said PBA deputy commissioner Rickie Santos.

“Judging from the lineups, competition is well-balanced. A number of our best collegiate talents are seeing action. We have players from Mindanao raring to display their talents here in the big city,” he said.

The developmental league also opens up opportunity for those wanting to make a jump to the pros to make a name for themselves.

“Those looking at joining the PBA Draft late this year will surely come out to impress,” Santos said. “All these point to more exciting games and a good year for the PBA D-League.”

PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa graced the opening ceremonies at San Juan Arena and declared the games open.

The teams opened up the festivities with a parade along with their respective muses.
