PH basketball legend Caloy Loyzaga passes away
Philippine basketball icon Caloy Loyzaga has passed away. He was 85.
Loyzaga died of cardiac arrest at Cardinal Santos Medical Center Wednesday morning, his son Chito confirmed.
He suffered a massive stroke back in 2011 when he was still living in Australia and has settled in the Philippines for good since 2013.
Arguably the best Filipino basketball player of all time, Loyzaga steered the Philippines to great heights back in his day.
“Big Difference” helped establish the Philippines as basketball powerhouse in the continent with consecutive top finishes in the Asian Games and Fiba Asia.
He steered the Philippines to stints in the Olympics (1952, 1956) and a bronze medal finish, the Philippines’ ever, in the 1954 Fiba World Championships.
