Blackwater, NLEX open Governors’ Cup bids

Hoping for a better finish this season-ending conference, Blackwater and NLEX open their respective campaigns in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
For the Road Warriors, coach Boyet Fernandez is positive that his wards will be ready when the game tips off at 3 p.m. after an injury-riddled offseason.
“I’m hoping they’ll be ready for the first game,” he said.
Asi Taulava is still recovering from a knee injury, while Sean Anthony is coming off a sprained ankle.
Lebanese import Rodrige Akl is also nursing a calf strain, but is highly optimistic that he can play come
the conference opener.
“Minor injuries lang naman and si Asi di naman talaga minor injury kasi galing siyang surgery. Basically healing na siya,” said Fernandez.
NLEX will be pinning its run on returning reinforcement Henry Walker, who suited up for Alaska in the past.
Meanwhile, Blackwater has been hit harder in the offseason with the sudden passing of forward Gilbert Bulawan.
Still, the Elite are trying their best to cope with the hand they have been dealt with, and would love to dedicate a successful third conference to the late hardworking forward.
Former Meralco import Eric Dawson will see action for Blackwater, as he will link up with Palestinian guard Imad Qahwash to bolster its young core.
