Chris Ross hopes that his right knee injury won’t be a serious one.

Ross felt a  tweak in his knee in the third quarter of San Miguel’s 111-105 double overtime win over Ginebra and the defensive-minded guard was immediately subbed out and did not return.

“I stopped and I felt something on my knee, so it kind of hurt. Any movement was hurting. I wanted to go back out there, but I wouldn’t have been a positive for my team. I would have been a liability, so the trainer decided to shut it down,” Ross said.

Ross finished the game with six points and five assists and his presence was sorely missed as the Beermen allowed the Gin Kings to fight back from 24-points down.

He was happy to note, though, that the rest of the team stepped up in his absence and fought through in the clutch, especially Ronald Tubid.

“I probably could have returned but I wouldn’t have been of any help for my team. We got a lot of guys on the bench that are ready to step up. Luckily today, it was Ronald and he stepped up and played well,” he said.

“I wanted to go back out, but my knee wasn’t really feeling right, so hopefully, Lord willing, nothing’s wrong and I’ll be ready to go for practice on Tuesday and play on Friday.”

Ross is optimistic that there is no major damage to his knee as the Beermen seek to defend their Governors’ Cup title.

“We’re gonna get a check up maybe tomorrow and I hope there’s no structural damage. I’m hoping it’s just a sprain and nothing is torn in there,” he said. “We’ll figure it out either tomorrow or Tuesday. Hopefully, I’ll be ready for Friday.”
