Garcia rues ROS’ lack of ball movement in loss to Ginebra

When it came down to winning time, Rain or Shine just didn’t have it. 

Rain or Shine held a 74-70 lead over Barangay Ginebra late in the fourth quarter before the Gin Kings raced to an 11-0 run to take the game, 81-74, and ruin the Elasto Painters’ perfect record.

ROS head coach Caloy Garcia said it was the Painters’ lack of ball movement that ultimately led to their demise Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“Our biggest problem today was the [lack of] ball movement and we were not hitting our open shots,” said Garcia, whose team fell to 2-1.

Rain or Shine connected on just 11 assists and went bone-dry from the three-point area with a 6-of-41 clip.

And that disastrous performance from distance contributed heavily to the Elasto Painters’ overall 26-of-100 shooting percentage from the field.

“Ginebra did a good job defensively, but the thing is we were not moving the ball,” said Garcia whose team missed its last 12 attempts from the field.

“The problem in the fourth quarter was we dribbled the ball too much, we were trying to force shots, and we’re not looking at the bigs anymore.”
