OUT TO SNATCH ALL-STAR SLAM CROWN
As much as everyone anticipates the throwdowns from the favorites, one element of the All-Star Weekend has always been surprises.
Remember last year when Rey Guevarra crashed the Justin Melton party and forced the judges to crown them as co-champions?
On Friday, we might be treated to one of those surprises again as a number of guys are raring to show their wares in the Slam Dunk Contest.
Still recuperating from an injury which sidelined him for the better part of the ongoing conference, Guevarra admits that he didn’t have enough time to prepare like he did in last year’s event.
“Susubukan ko pa rin,” the Bolts forward said. “Kakagaling ko lang from injury eh. Pero positive lang ako. Tignan natin kung kaya.”
Another guy who might send the Palawan crowd on its feet could be Talk ‘N Text rookie Matt Ganuelas-Rosser.
“I don’t really have too many tricks on my sleeve, but my goal is just to make every dunk and go from there. Hopefully they miss so I can squeak by them,” he shared with a chuckle.
Another leaper trying his luck is JC Intal, the Barako Bull forward, who quipped: “I’m really flattered rin na at 31, kaya pa. But this would definitely be my last.”
“Gusto ko mag-compete din eh. I know na medyo dehado kasi mga bata yung kalaban, but we’ll be competing,” he said.
Melton and Japeth Aguilar complete the cast for this season’s Dunkapalooza. (RL)
