Star begins new era with Webb, rookies in tow
Star begins its new journey with coach Jason Webb now calling the shots.
And for the youthful second-generation mentor, the Hotshots are just excited to start this new era for the Purefoods franchise.
“We’re excited to play again because of the long offseason. The guys are excited for the training camp and for the new season,” he said.
And Webb is looking to usher just that in with another new acquisition in tow.
Selecting eighth in the first round of the 2015 Gatorade Rookie Draft, the Hotshots went for burly big man Norbert Torres to backstop their frontline.
“We didn’t expect him (Torres) to fall on our spot,” said Webb during the draft.
Present during the two-day Gatorade Draft combine, Webb said that they did not have a need for a specific spot, but he expect Star to “get a little better than last year.”
And he feels fortunate that former Star head coach Tim Cone, who led the franchise to a grand slam, is still a phone call away.
“One of the things we talked about was the open communication. I’m glad that he keeps his line open for us,” said Webb.
