HARVEY GETS SECOND CRACK WITH TEXTERS
In its fervent hope to arrest further skid and improve chances for back-to-back championships, PBA Philippine Cup titlist Talk n Text has decided to dismiss Keith Benson and, in his place, bring in old import Donnell Harvey.
The five-year NBA veteran is now with the Tropang Texters in Legazpi, Albay where they play the Barako Bull Energy Cola in a Phoenix Fuel-sponsored Commissioner’s Cup road game Saturday.
“We are hoping he will improve our chances this conference especially since he led us to the championship game last year,” said Talk n Text coach Norman Black.
The Texters played five games with Benson, losing three, including the last two versus San Mig Coffee and Rain or Shine.
And team management decided enough is enough with Benson.
An NBA first-round draftee, Harvey returned with a mission to finish an unfinished business with the Texters.
He also came in as import replacement last year, leading the Texters to a runner-up finish behind Denzel Bowles and the San Mig Coffee Mixers (then called B-Meg Llamados).
The former Florida Gator, who had stints with the Dallas Mevericks, the Denver Nuggets, the Orlando Magic and the New Jersey Nets in the NBA, came close to winning a PBA crown.
He let it slip away on fouls in the deciding Game Seven, leaving the Texters in tatters in the end. (SB)
