TEXTERS GET ADDITIONAL SNIPER IN CANALETA
NINO “KG” Canaleta will be reinforcing a Talk N Text team direly in need of additional firepower in the PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup at playoffs.
In a trade approved by PBA Commissioner Chito Salud Monday, Air21’s top gunner was traded to the Tropang Texters for Sean Anthony, rookie Eliud Poligrates and a 2016 first round pick.
Anthony, a hardworking forward made the No. 6 overall pick in 2010 by Air21 but immediately shipped to Powerade before making a stop in Barako Bull for majority of last season, and Poligrates, tabbed at 27th overall by TNT in last year’s draft, are suiting up for the Express starting next conference.
Air21 has been eliminated from the season-opening tournament after finishing the eliminations at 10th, but TNT wound up at fourth and will be facing San Mig Coffee in a best-of-three quarterfinals matchup starting Tuesday.
The acquisition of Canaleta should help the defending champion Texters in their title-retention bid.
The 33-year-old led Air21 in scoring last season with an average of 16.72 points in 39 outings and was on track of duplicating that with 16.50 ppg in the conference.
Canaleta has been doing his scoring mostly from beyond the arc, draining 32 of his total 106 triple tries while adding 6.36 rebounds per outing.
