Picked third overall in the 2014 Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft, Ronald Pascual’s selection by San Miguel Beer proved to be one of the most surprising twists in the annual event.

And even the Kapampangan forward can’t believe it, as he said, “Di ko rin talaga inexpect.”

But Pascual is facing a tough challenge, as many pundits believe that the Beermen could have gotten perhaps a more talented player instead of the 26-year-old. He knows it, and just takes everything in stride.

“Masayang masaya ako kasi nakuha ako, pero pressured din kasi powerhouse din yung kumuha sa akin. Kailangan kong ibigay ang lahat ng kaya ko at mag-double sa workout para sa game ko,” Pascual said.

The 6-foot-2 forward also feels the pressure, as he’ll be in a loaded San Miguel Beer squad with proven league studs.

He said, “Nararamdaman ko na yung pressure kasi mga star na yung kasama ko sa San Miguel Beer.”

Pascual is the last member of San Sebastian’s famed Pinatubo Trio to get drafted in the PBA, as Alaska’s Calvin Abueva was picked second in 2012 and San Mig Super Coffee’s Ian Sangalang was selected second last year.

But Pascual doesn’t mind being the last one to go pro, as he believes his decision to wait this long is just right.

“Perfect timing ‘to para sa akin,” Pascual said. (RL)
