MERALCO DOWNS GINEBRA IN PANABO
Meralco held off a late Barangay Ginebra San Miguel stand and scored a 91-79 victory Sunday in the 2014 PBA Holcim Liga ng Bayan Preseason Games at the Panabo City Tourism, Cultural, and Sports Center in Davao del Norte.
John Wilson came off the bench and scored 15 second half points to finish with 18 to go with his five rebounds, while Reynel Hugnatan added 15 markers.
Cliff Hodge chipped in 13 points, while Rey Guevarra had 11 as the Bolts gave coach Norman Black his first victory in his new home.
Newly acquired forward Sean Anthony roared in his debut for the Bolts with a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards.
The Bolts got hot early and jumped to an early 12-point first quarter lead, 25-13, which they then extended to as much as 16, 36-20, after a Guevarra basket with 6:56 left in the second.
But the Kings got back into the game and moved to within three, 41-44, early in the third.
But Ginebra just couldn’t get into the driver’s seat. Behind timely baskets, Wilson thwarted repeated rallies by the Kings in the final canto.
Mark Caguioa had 21 points and five rebounds for Ginebra while Joseph Yeo accounted for 11 markers. (RL)
