QF-BOUND HOTSHOTS, ENERGY OPEN ELIMS-ENDING TRIPLEBILL
No typhoon can stop Purefoods and Barako Bull now as they wrap up their eliminations schedule on Tuesday in the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup.
With their out-of-town game in Dipolog City postponed last Saturday, the two treams take their act to the Cuneta Astrodome as curtainraiser for a heavy triplebill closing out the elims.
The Hotshots gun for a better placing in the 2 p.m. match after dropping their last two games against Rain or Shine and Talk ‘N Text.
At 5-5, a win could propel Purefoods to a tie with Ginebra and the victor of the GlobalPort-Meralco game. Their placing that will determine the quarterfinal pairings, however, will still depend on the quotient between the tied teams.
But the slump isn’t deterring the Hotshots, who want to defend their Philippine Cup title.
“Pagtatrabahuan pa rin namin ito. Kaya pa namin yan,” said Purefoods forward Marc Pingris.
Barako Bull, meanwhile, could still leapfrog Purefoods in the standings with a victory.
Currently sporting a 4-6 card, the Energy are building on a promising two-game winning streak after morale boosting wins against Blackwater and NLEX.
“We want to use our last games as preparation for the playoffs,” said Barako Bull coach Koy Banal. “It’s not about winning the game, but preparing ourselves, stretching ourselves this coming playoffs.” (RL)
