JAMES TO THE RESCUE
Alaska has had enough of the blow hot – blow cold, on-and-off cycle.
Looking to consistently pick up the W’s, the Aces have finally decided to replace DJ Covington with NBA veteran Damion James.
James, 27, is a member of the 2014 San Antonio Spurs team which won the NBA championship against Miami Heat. He played four years in the world’s grandest basketball stage, bouncing from New Jersey/ Brooklyn Nets to its D-League affiliate Bakersfield Jam, before finding his way to the Spurs and to the Texas Legends in the developmental league.
He averaged 18.28 points, 8.71 rebounds, 2.26 assists, 1.13 steals, and 1.04 blocks for the Legends this season.
Alaska coach Alex Compton confirmed the report, as he said, “We appreciate DJ Covington’s contributions to our team. He’s a fine young man who plays hard. We are replacing him with Damion James because he is a more experienced and versatile player.”
The 23-year-old Covington averaged 22.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 29 minutes of play in his four games for the Aces, who are mired in seventh spot with an even 2-2 card.
James is expected to arrive in the country Thursday morning before being measured in the afternoon. If he stands no taller than 6-9, James plunges into action the next day, getting his PBA baptism of fire against the tough Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. (RL)
