ENJOY PLAYING AND STAY POSITIVE
For Arwind Santos, the key to having a successful team is chemistry fostered and bonded by trust.
That has been the reason for their ascent in the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup, and he hopes that it would also be the reason for their resurgence in the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Mired in the cellar with a 2-6 card, the 2013 PBA MVP is hoping that they could once again rekindle that bond.
“Kailangan naming mag-regroup. Mahirap na walang pansinan eh. Nabawasan yung kakulitan namin eh. Dapat maibalik namin yun,” Santos said.
Days before their game against Barako Bull, the Spiderman took the initiative and invited his teammates to dinner.
“Bilang captain, di ako vocal eh. Dun ko dinadaan yung leadership ko, kumbaga refresh lang. Enjoyin lang natin,” Santos said.
Obviously, that went out well as they repulsed the Energy, 102-91, for their second win of the conference.
“Yun ang sikreto ng isang team na nakikita ko, pag masaya ang team, kahit kulang-kulang o kahit na may nararamdaman ka, ang magdadala yung happiness kasi pwede kang manalo dahil andun yung tiwala nyo sa isa’t isa pag nag-eenjoy ang lahat,” he explained.
Santos himself has suffered a dip in his minutes this conference, but with June Mar Fajardo being sidelined with a sprained ankle, he played for 41 minutes and had a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds in the victory.
“Iniinda ko pa rin yung tuhod pero 80 percent na ako kanina. God is good dahil nakatulong ako at nanalo kami,” he said.
Though San Miguel continues to be on survival mode having to win all its games to have a chance at a quarters spot, Santos just reminded his teammates to stay positive and keep their heads high going into the final stretch of the eliminations.
“Masaya kami na nanalo kami, pero ang focus namin ay yung sa dumarating at ihaharap sa amin,” he said. “Yung natitirang tatlong laro, kailangang i-straight namin. Pero di na namin iniisip yun. Ang mahalaga, nanalo kami at positive kami.” (RL)
