Despite still being in the thick of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals, Talk ‘N Text is already looking forward to the third conference as the Tropang Texters flew in American import Steffphon Pettigrew early.

The 6-foot-5 former Western Kentucky University standout arrived in the country on Wednesday morning and was a curious observer in Talk ‘N Text’s Game 1 duel with Rain or Shine.

A veteran of Latin American leagues, having previously suited up for clubs in Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Uruguay, Pettigrew said that this will be his first time to see action in an Asian league. However, it wouldn’t really matter that much as he said he is ready for the style of Philippine basketball.

FEATURED STORIES

“I heard (the Philippines) is a very beautiful place and the fans are very die hard. A lot of people say that the type of play is very physical. But that’s my type of nature of the game so I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

Also helping him get acquainted with the landscape is his familiarity with Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar, who was a teammate with the Hilltoppers from 2007 to 2009.

“I’m familiar with him (Japeth). He’s a good friend of mine,” the 26-year-old said.

But Pettigrew reiterated that there won’t be any favors given once he steps on the court.

“I run the floor, I play physical, I just love the game so I play hard,” he said.

And Pettigrew will be satisfied to help the cause of the Tropang Texters come the Governors’ Cup.

“I know how to play the game. I’ll just try to come in and help the team as much as I can,” he said.

“I’m already looking forward to the Governors’ Cup.” (RL)
