Once a fierce rival of the Philippine national team in the international stage, Osama Daghles now takes his act to the Philippines to bolster Talk ‘N Text as its Asian reinforcement for the upcoming Governors’ Cup.

The Jordanian national arrived in the country on Monday and he said when the chance to play in the PBA popped up, he didn’t have any second thoughts.

“When I heard of this opportunity, I wanted to play for a great team and it’s a great opportunity for me. I’m excited to join the Talk ‘N Text family,” said the 6-foot-2 and 7/8 playmaker.

With his team playing in the Commissioner’s Cup Finals, Daghles is satisfied with what he’s seeing and admits he expects the Tropang Texters to once again be in the championship picture come the third conference.

“It definitely defines what Sam Daghles is all about. I’m all about the championship. I don’t care about individual awards. It’s about the championship. That’s why I made my decision to come and play for Talk ‘N Text, because they’re all about the championship,” he said. “Anything short of a championship may be a disappointment, but my job is to come and help the team by passing, scoring, and defense. Whatever they want, I’m here to help.”

Daghles will be reunited with former Jordan coach and now team consultant Tab Baldwin.  He’ll also on the same team as his many time adversary in team manager Jimmy Alapag.

“I’ve always been a good friend of Jimmy. I follow his performance and I’m happy that he helped the Philippines be known all over the world,” he said. “Also, it’s great to be with coach Tab. The Philippines is lucky to have him. He’s a great basketball mind and I think he’s going to change a lot of players here.”

A familiar visitor of Manila, the 35-year-old Daghles said that this was a long time coming for him to finally suit up for the PBA.

“I love the city, I love the fans, and I love the Filipinos. They are an amazing people,” he said, also saying that he’s raring to show his wares in front of Filipino basketball lovers.

Daghles added, “I’m excited for the physicality in the PBA. I want to experience that and I expect to see that in the games.” (RL)
