Fajardo set to win third BPC award
Reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo is poised to win his third Best Player of the Conference award, his second this season, as he is the runaway leader in the statistical points race after the semifinals.
The San Miguel big man averaged 17.8 points, 11.6 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 0.8 assists, and 0.5 steals for an average of 36.2 statistical points (SPs).
Fajardo has won the hardware before in the 2014 and 2015 Philippine Cups.
If he wins the award this third conference, it’s almost definite that the Cebuano giant will once again be named as the season’s MVP.
Chasing him in the Governors’ Cup BPC race are GlobalPort’s Terrence Romeo (32.9 SPs), Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar (30.6 SPs), San Miguel’s Marcio Lassiter (28.3 SPs), NLEX’ Asi Taulava and Governors’ Cup BPC Jayson Castro, who are tied for fifth with an identical 28.0 SPs.
Rounding out the top 10 are Rain or Shine’s Paul Lee (27.8 SPs), GlobalPort’s Stanley Pringle (27.2 SPs), and the Barako Bull duo of JC Intal and Joseph Yeo (26.2 SPs).
In the Best Import race, GlobalPort’s Jarrid Famous leads the pack in the after finishing second in scoring among the reinforcements with 30.2 points and leading in rebounds with 23.0 boards per game to average 56.1 SPs.
Chasing him for the plum are Barako Bull import Liam McMorrow (53.2 SPs), Rain or Shine’s Wendell McKines (52.4 SPs), Ginebra’s Orlando Johnson (50.9 SPs), and San Miguel’s AZ Reid (49.6 SPs).
However, by virtue of making it to the semifinals, Reid, McKines, Alaska’s Romeo Travis, and Star’s Marqus Blakely are the candidates to come away with the Bobby Parks Best Import award in the Governors’ Cup.
The BPC and Best Import awards will be given before Game 2 of the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals between Alaska and San Miguel on Sunday, 5 p.m., at Smart Araneta Coliseum. (DL)
