Jones Cup 2015: Gilas Pilipinas beats Japan ahead of Iran clash
Gilas Pilipinas pulled away in the second half for a convincing 75-60 win over Japan Wednesday, a day before its clash versus Iran in the Jones Cup 2015 in Taiwan.
Terrence Romeo teamed up with fellow national team newcomer Moala Tautuaa in a telling run bridging the last two periods that broke the game wide open for the Filipinos from a deadlock at 44.
Romeo, Gilas’ breakout star, led the Filipinos with 16 points while Tautuaa, the no. 1 overall pick in the recent Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft, added 10 including two impressive rim-rattlers.
Up next for the Filipinos, who improved to 3-1, are the Iranians, who lost to the United States earlier in the day, 66-81. They clash Thursday at 1 p.m. in a virtual title match.
