Rain or Shine played ‘out of character’ in loss to TNT
Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao wasn’t all too pleased when the Elasto Painters went pedestrian against Talk N’ Text in their opening game in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
Holding an eight-point lead, 98-90, with 6:18 remaining in the game, Guiao said they could’ve just protected the lead and finish Wednesday night on a high note, but it wasn’t the case.
Talk N’ Text ended up spoiling the night of the defending Commissioners’ Cup Champions as Jayson Castro worked his magic for a 101-98 win.
Guiao said the last six minutes of the game was when everything turned south for them.
“We lost the game, it’s our fault and we have to take responsibility and blame for the loss,” said Guiao. “At the time when we needed baskets the most, we couldn’t score for five or six minutes. It was at the most crucial part of the game they caught up with us.”
There was a moment of reprieve with 2.5 seconds remaining when Castro was called with an unsportsmanlike foul on Elasto Painters forward Gabe Norwood that awarded Rain or Shine two free throws and the ensuing possession.
But Norwood missed his free throws and the Lee turned the ball over in the following possession.
“It’s, to me, out of character, we won the championship, we’ve been through difficult situations, we’ve been able to carve out wins,” said Guiao. “This game today, I felt we were rookies making rookie mistakes in the fourth quarter especially.”
“That’s the disappointment.”
