Talk about being in a precarious position.

With his PBA future in limbo and a replacement import already waiting in the wings, Josh Boone silenced his doubters and posted 32 points, 21 rebounds, and two blocks in San Miguel Beer’s 112-96 thumping of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on Sunday.

“It’s a short conference pero base sa nakikita namin, we’re on the right track. At least, naumpisahan na namin ng medyo maganda,” said Beermen coach Biboy Ravanes as his reinforcement led the charge for the Beermen, scoring their second win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

With replacement import Kevin Jones already in the country, Ravanes said that Boone’s good performance in their past two games is giving management a good problem, as they still deliberate on whether they should stick it out with Boone or tap Jones.

“He had a good game tonight. Josh has been professional. I can’t say enough good things for Josh Boone and his level of professionalism knowing he’s in an adverse situation. I really take my hat off to him regardless of what the outcome is,” said San Miguel team consultant Todd Purves.

In the two games he has played, Boone, a former first-round pick in the NBA, has been averaging 24 points and 18.5 boards per game.
The big man from the University of Connecticut declined to comment in his status and just shrugged his shoulders when mediamen tried to get his side.

Purves said that the 29-year-old’s situation is still up in the air, and Boone will remain with the team as they wait for the management’s decision on the matter.

“We’ll address that as soon as there is a change made. Till then, Josh Boone is our guy,” Purves said. (RL)
