LONG WAIT OVER
“I’ve been waiting for this for a while now.”
With Meralco set to battle Purefoods in the quarterfinals, one guy who is elated with the matchup is no less than Bolts forward Sean Anthony.
“I want a rematch. I’ve been waiting for it so I’m happy we got them. I’m excited to play them,” he said.
What Anthony was talking about is what he feels was unfinished business between him and the Purefoods squad.
“The last game I played was in the semis against them,” he recalled, referring to the semifinal duel between the then-San Mig Super Coffee Mixers and Anthony’s former squad Air21 Express. “I went down with an Achilles injury and we fell short.”
He added, “I use it as a motivation all throughout my three months work out as I tried to get back. I thought we were right there then. I was playing with half of an ankle in the semis.”
This time, the mercurial forward said that none of those would happen again.
“It feels good. We’re going up against the defending champs so we’ll just try to focus,” he said. “It’s the playoffs. It’s going to be a battle. It’s going to be fun.”
Meralco owns a twice-to-beat edge over the seventh seed Hotshots. Game 1 is slated on Thursday at the Cuneta Astrodome. (RL)
