After going under the knife almost a month ago for his broken finger, Japeth Aguilar is working to return to his old form.

Aguilar, though, admits that he has been pushing himself a little bit too hard because of his eagerness to return to action.

“Medyo may pagkatigas din yung ulo ko kasi gusto ko mag-start na. Nilalaro ko pa rin sya pero alam ko naman kung sumasakit sya at iniingatan ko pa rin kahit medyo rigorous yung training namin,” he said.

Though his left pinkie is still swollen, Aguilar is happy to have had the surgery which needs a 12-week recovery period.

“Masaya ako sa decision ko magpa-opera kasi two years na ito,” he said, admitting that the injury has been lingering since the Gilas Pilipinas buildup for the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship. “Mas gusto ko sya ngayon kasi yung ligament, intact na, stable na.”

The Kings have started their skills training ahead of the resumption of full practices under new head coach Tim Cone.

Because of the surgery, Aguilar had to skip national team duties this year. But he still hopes that another chance will present itself in the future.

“Sinacrifice ko muna yung Gilas ngayon. Hopefully in the future, in God’s will, walang major injury na mangyari,” he said. “Gusto ko talaga yung Gilas kasi sayang yung opportunity. Iba yung international competitions at di mo kilala yung mga kalaban kaya makikipag-compete ka talaga.”

The PBA season resumes on October 18.
