Incoming PBA chairman Robert Non hinted at the possibility of adding two more teams in the future as the league readies itself for the opening of its 41st season next month.

“We’d like to give players every opportunity to succeed. We might have 14 teams in the future, which means more employment for coaches and players alike,” Non said during the 2015 PBA Press Corps Awards Night on Wednesday at Century Park Hotel.

Non, however, refused to reveal the names of the possible candidates.

Aside from promising a bright future for the league, Non also touched on the matter of improving the level of play.

Last season, expansion teams Kia and Blackwater were welcome additions to the league but both franchises still have long ways to go before establishing themselves as playoff contenders.

Kia had a better showing in its maiden season by winning 10 games and nearly making the playoffs in the PBA Governors’ Cup while Blackwater only won a total of four games including a 0-11 stint in the Philippine Cup.

“We’d like to improve the quality of teams which will result to the quality of games. I cannot overemphasize on the word quality even more, and that also goes for the officiating,” the San Miguel executive said.

“The PBA is striving for a better product, an excellent product that gets better with age. We will be going out of our comfort zone to reach them. Where the Filipino basketball hearts are, there is the PBA.”
