Determined Castro cops second straight Player of the Week award
Most Valuable Player candidate Jayson Castro is determined to end the season with no less than a championship.
His motivation has driven him to be at his best form in the PBA Governors Cup.
Already averaging a team-high 21 points for the conference, the 5-foot-8 guard elevated his game further, dropping a season-high 42 points to lead TNT to a 136-124 romp of Phoenix as the Katropa booked the last semifinal seat last week.
TNT will face sister team Meralco starting Tuesday for Game One of the their best-of-five semifinal pairing.
Castro’s hot-shooting effort was just two points shy of his PBA career-best 44, which he registered in Game Two of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup last season where TNT went on to win the championship against Rain or Shine.
The TNT combo guard’s impressive showing earned him his second straight Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week, beating Barangay Ginebra playmaker LA Tenorio.
Tenorio actually exploded for a conference-high 32 points in the Kings’ 109-104 win to advance to the semifinals.
Castro has now earned his fourth weekly citation for the conference. (RD)
