Barangay Ginebra rookie Kevin Ferrer may not have had an impressive PBA debut but he promises to work on his game and get the attention of his head coach Tim Cone.

The former University of Santo Tomas standout turned in three points, three rebounds and had a turnover in 11 minutes, subpar numbers as Barangay Ginebra lost to Meralco, 108-103, to open its campaign in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup.

In his short stint on the floor, Ferrer, the No.2 overall pick in the Rookie Draft, understands that he will have to work hard to earn his minutes.

“Hindi madali makuha yung loob ni coach Tim, so kailangan pag-trabahuan ko yung playing time ko and yung trust ni coach sa akin. Kailangan ko mag-extra work sa practice,” the 6-foot-4 Gilas mainstay.

Ferrer, who is known more for his scoring during his remarkable stint in the UAAP, pointed out that his role in the team is to be more active defensively.

“Hindi ko tinitingnan yung points, ang nasa isip ko lang talaga ay dumipensa. Lalo na dito sa team namin marami kaming scorer so kailangan ma-improve ko depensa ko . “ Ferrer added. Onofre John Andres
