Alaska and Barako Bull tangle in the Petron Saturday Special of the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with the winner of the 3 p.m. match claiming a piece of the lead.
The Aces and the Energy, both toting 6-2 cards, part ways with the victors moving up to a tie for first with San Miguel Beer.
Though primed to claim one of the top four spots in the quarterfinals, coach Alex Compton is still cautious of the challenge that comes with the Aces’ final three games.
“There’s no easy game. If you look at the next three teams we play, tatlong higante yun. And for our team that is not that big, it’s really about how can we not get dominated inside in the next three games,” he said.
Height would definitely be a disadvantage for Alaska, as it only has Sonny Thoss, Eric Menk, Calvin Abueva and Vic Manuel to boot in its undersized frontline.
They have the tough task of defending the Energy’s tower of power in Liam McMorrow, who has been a force this conference.
There’s still a reason to be optimistic for the Aces, however, as McMorrow showed a bit of a chink in his armor as he was limited to just 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting, a conference-low in Barako Bull’s last game against Kia.
Replicating that feat won’t be an easy job for the Aces though.
Compton said, “If you want to go far this conference, you have to do well against the big imports and that’s what we have to face in this final three outings of ours.” (RL)
