What a difference a conference makes for Meralco.
After a woeful first conference, the Bolts have rebounded this 2016 PBA Commissioner’s Cup after racking up four straight victories behind import Arinze Onuaku.
Meralco guns for win number five against GlobalPort at Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday. Tip off is at 3 p.m.
Coach Norman Black admits that the hot start has caught him off guard, but knows it’s a product of hardwork over the off-season.
“I really had no idea what is going to happen coming off of a 1-10 conference. But I did know that we played eight exhibition games so that we’ll have a better chance to jell and get to know one another.”
The improved cohesion has been the key for the Bolts, who were able to hold on to a 90-87 victory against Phoenix last Sunday.
“I give all my credit to my players. I’m very proud of them that they worked hard in the offseason, that their attitude remained good, remained focused, and we just want to keep on winning games,” said Black.
Meralco may have another thing working in its favor as GlobalPort may be coming in the game without a key cog.
Stanley Pringle remains a game-time decision for the Batang Pier after spraining his right ankle in GlobalPort’s 120-109 defeat to San Miguel on Friday, leaving the squad to the leadership of Terrence Romeo and import Calvin Warner.
