Surprise leader Meralco takes its unbeaten record to the test against TNT Saturday in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Shocking the league with two huge wins in opening weekend, the Bolts’ confidence is on a high after stupendous showing from import Allen Durham.
But coach Norman Black’s focus lies on his new recruits, Asian import Mohammad Jamshidi and Jonathan Uyloan, as he looks to have a smooth-sailing crew in this season ending conference.
“Right now, it’s a little bit difficult because they don’t know what we are doing. We don’t run very smoothly when they’re on the floor,” he said. “We’ll utilize this week to become a better team.”
Meralco has truly made the most of the break and will be gunning to re-affirm its standing at the top when they battle against the Katropa at 3 p.m.
“I’m happy that were able to get two wins this weekend. Now we get to focus on TNT on Saturday,” said Black.
Meanwhile, TNT is coming off a 101-98 victory over Rain or Shine last Wednesday where imports Mario Little and Michael Madanly impressed alongside lead guard Jayson Castro.
Coach Jong Uichico lauded the efforts of Little, who rescued the Katropa in the end game.
“He gives us the energy. Lumalaban naman sya, and he’s playing to his strengths. He gives us a different dimension to our game,” he said of his reinforcement.
But it will take a lot more from TNT to take Meralco off of its rails early in the conference.
