The Star Hotshots are now on a hot roll with back-to-back dominant triumphs over the NLEX Road Warriors and the Phoenix Fuel Masters.
Breaking into the win-column the last time with a 99-75 rout of the Road Warriors, the Hotshots showcased an even more impressive performance in a 123-79 demolition of the Fuel Masters in the PBA Philippine Cup at the MOA Arena in Saturday night.
It was the most lopsided PBA game in a long while.
The Hotshots were a bright, bright Star team in the entire stretch of the game, pulling off the 44-point victory that sent them up to joint fourth place with the Fuel Masters, the Blackwater Elite and the TNT KaTropa Texters at 2-2.
Rain or Shine remained the solo leader at 3-1, followed by Globalport, Meralco and San Miguel Ber at 2-1.
It was a virtual no-contest as the Hotshots stormed to a 35-20 lead in the first period, then showed no mercy in pounding the hapless Fuel Masters to the finish.
The Fuel Masters came out flat and hardly got into the game – a far cry from the Phoenix team that stunned San Miguel, 92-85, then smother Mahindra, 114-104.
Paul Lee and Allein Maliksi scored 18 points apiece, PJ Simon made 15 while Justin Melton, Jio Jalalon and Mark Barroca added 11 each in the hot Star rampage.
So hot were the Hotshots that they led by as many as 53 points in the second half.
The Hotshots hit at a whopping 62-percent clip as they roared to a huge 61-38 halftime lead.
Paul Lee and PJ Simon formed a deadly combo, combining for 26 points, laced by five three-pointers in the first 24 minutes of play.
Star made eight of 15 three-point tries in all as against Phoenix’s 3-of-21 shooting.
